'Candy game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She stated his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer program which he managed.

Ruben played a "candy game" with the minors, the prosecutor said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings the man had played this game with the young males "for many years", and youngsters had previously become sick the following morning.

She stated Ruben had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in recently.

The legal representative stated further: "This year his family member had worries about the situation, with valid cause.

"They chose" to investigate in the man's possessions."

The prosecutor explained objects including infant oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were found, and his family member contacted the authorities about his concerns.

She said the man went on to engage in the "candy game" with six children that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she added.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, had stated that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

The legal representative said the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the family member called the law enforcement once more.

She stated the defendant then conducted the "treat game" in a space of five children.
